Here is what people said

Hello, my name is Tyler Peters and I have attended karate classes for about four and a half years at A Plus Karate. I am now 14 years old just about to leave middle school. One day before school started in the Fifth grade, one of my friends who had been attending classes encourage me to come to class. The experience was foreign to me, at first it felt stranger but the Martial Arts turned out to give me much more than I expected. I sat out of class and just watched in awe at the environment in the school. Everyone welcomed me and introduced themselves. I felt like a V.I.P.

Over the past few months previously, I had nothing to do. My life was down to eating, sleeping, watching T.V., doing homework and vegetating after I stopped playing roller hockey. My dad urged me to join some sort of team sport or exercise program. He was surprised to see me pick up Martial Arts, and I can tell now that he wouldn't have it any other way. Now four and a half years later I still enjoy taking classes and interacting with the great instructors and my fellow classmates.

I have learned many skills over the years. Not only am I exceptional in my self defense training, but I also have learned to control my anger, focus on every day tasks, heal others, and help them grow. By studying body movement, doing different exercises not just for the body but for the mind, I have successfully shaped my attitude and abilities that will help me on my quest to be the best.

Nowadays I come in to class ready to learn and better myself. I also find it fun to challenge myself. My instructors have taught me to set goals, and build up to them. Master Oyamada is always telling me "inch by inch, it's a cinch". I can't count how many times I have worked through phases where I thought I couldn't do it. In fact, the phrase my instructors can't stand when you say it is "I can't".

Now that I'm a Jr. Black Belt, the responsibility that I have inherited with this belt means that I should be a positive role model for the students younger the myself. This means always being the best that I can be. This means much more to me than most people, but my entire life revolves around it. Some day I hope I can share the same experiences with others when they want to learn karate in a fun and safe environment.

Would you rather get in to a fight in a controlled safe environment, or wait until some one comes swinging at you and risk being brutally hurt or worse, killed. That is how the Martial Arts have helped me grown as an individual.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are many different aspects of Karate that can be perceived in various ways by different people. However there are certain characteristics in my mind that stand out above the rest such as the friendly atmosphere and the level of discipline.

One of the things that I immediately noticed when I first joined A Plus Karate was the friendly and welcoming attitude of my fellow classmates and my instructors. When starting out as a white belt it can often get intimidating to see a lot of the more advanced students performing the techniques with eas and precision. Yet, if you make a mistake everyone is more than willing to help. In addition it never ceases to amaze me that everyone knows each other very well and that everone treats everybody else as equals.

Secondly, the other thing that I linke most about Karate is the distinct level of discipline. The instructors expect a certain level of cooperation and evvort from each individual student. In Karate certain lines and boundries must be set to successfully keep the balance of respect as well as maintain a constructive mindset. However within those boundries there is a special relationship between one another.

In summing up, I enjoy the unique learning environment and the unparalleled bond of respect between teacher and student. All the attributes of Karate, including the ones forementioned, provide for a positive and stimulating learning experience the “leads us on a quest to be the BEST!”

"What I like about Karate..."

I like karate because it is good exercise. There are some movements like kicks and punches and there are also kata's like short one and long one. My favorite is long one because its harder than short one. I also like karate because it teaches you how to defend yourself. There is aggressive twins, delayed sword, deflecting hammer and much more.

I don't like private classes as much as being in a group. When ever I misbehave at home my mom tells Shihan and he helps me be a better person with my mom and dad. I have done karate before a long time ago, but I enjoy Kenpo karate better. I like all of my teachers especially Miss. Ivonne and Sifu. The two other teachers are Mike and Miss. Michelle. I don't see Miss. Michelle as much as the others. Every teacher has his or her way of teaching so I can learn different things with each and every one of them.

"I made a bet with my child that really paid off!"

Peter and I made a bet with our son that once he became a purple belt that we would join. So, we kept our bet. We are able to do this as a family. I feel better about myself. At first it was a challenge for me. I did not feel I would be able to do this. Physically I feel stronger and in better shape. I really surprised myself! I did not feel I was able to do retain all the information in Kenpo Karate. I absolutely recommend this to my friends, family and coworkers!"
